Are you making these three mistakes during your post-workout skincare routine? STOP!
You’ve just finished a great workout, and you’re feeling on top of the world. You’ve gotten your endorphins flowing, reduced stress levels, and are one step closer to a stronger, healthier body to boot. But before you go sit down for a much needed rest, there are a few things you should do in order to ensure healthy, clean skin. Even though skincare is probably the last thing on your mind after a workout, it's very important to maintain healthy, blemish free skin. Here are three common skincare-related mistakes after a workout:
Mistake #1: Not washing your face right after working out
Immediately after your workout, you should go wash your face. You’ve just sweated up a storm, and all that sweat will sit on your face and dry up there if you don’t clean it off. Neglecting to wash your face after a workout can lead to acne, clogged pores, and more.
When at home, use a good quality skincare cleanser as you wash. If you’re at the gym, bring along a cleanser in your gym bag. If you’ve forgotten to bring some along, then be sure to wash with water at the very least to get rid of the majority of sweat and use cleanser when you get home.
Mistake #2: Not changing out of your gym clothes and showering
Don't forget about the skin on the rest of your body as well! After your workout, try to change out of your gym clothes and shower as soon as you can, for similar reasons to why you have to wash your face right after a workout. Not changing out of your gym clothes does more than ensure you’ll be smelling musty. Not changing and showering can lead to the development of acne on parts of your body such as your back or chest.
Mistake #3: Not moisturizing
You just washed off all your skincare products you may have put on during your morning routine. Once you've washed up and showered, if you replenish just one product before getting on with your day, let it be your moisturizer. First off, you’ve been sweating and breathing heavily, which means your body is probably already in a hydration deficit. Add to that the fact that you've just washed your face and showered, and you're left with dry skin that’s been stripped of moisture. So be sure to replenish that hydration with a good moisturizer (and of course drink plenty of water to hydrate from within)!
So be sure to avoid these three common post-workout mistakes. You’re already taking great care of your body by exercising; be sure to extend that courtesy to your skin as well!
